In a pinch, Princes Auto, Canadian Tire, or Home Depot carry alluminum
rods, angle stock, tubes, etc. For the rods, you can get smooth and
threaded. All three stores sell these relatively cheap (you shouldn't
need to spend more than $10, I'd think, but that is a guess). But I
would try Princes Auto first - they seem to be a fair bit cheaper than
the other two.
For the flange, I think this depends on the purpose of the flange. If
it is just to prevent the piece sliding around, a cheap spring clamp or
something like that may do the trick. Otherwise using a nut may work as
well.

I have been coveting one of those new fangle booth displays that is
compact. Essentially projection screen (roller blind) mounted upside
down. Alternatively I have also seen the ones with a block in the
center which has 5 holes drilled into it. One to connect to the base
and then 4 at angles to each vertice of the rectangular display. They
generally use a light rod that has a bit of give and these connect to an
eyelet on each vertice of the display.
I am looking for something that I can use for the light rod that you can
attach a flange so it does not slip through the eyelet. Anybody got any
ideas for material - I think I have seen them for tenting, but not
having done any camping I thought someone in the group might know.
BTW, it is for our booth at COSSFest and tentativley another conference.
