Good afternoon, I am thinking about a DIY setup for a wearable computer and I hope you guys can help me. The objective of this setup is to allow me to conduct Fire & Safety field inspections without the aid of a pen and paper. I have already created a web-aware system for data entry and generating the report(s). What I need now is the field setup. This is what I am thinking of:
--A small form-factor computer running a version of GNU/LINUX w/ a graphic GUI for user input (at the very least a browser). The back end will be running apache w/php, PostgreSQL, an MTA like qMAIL and other goodies. The idea is that if I am unable to connect to the remote server, I can save all the information locally for later upload to the remote server. --A small (hopefully HD) projector so that I can project the screen on any flat surface --A small wireless (bluetooth or otherwise) keyboard for input (ideally with an embedded trackball in lieu of a mouse). Something small that I can put in my coverall's pockets --A helmet-mounted camera for either still pictures or short video recording The whole setup should be light and fit into a common backpack. The battery life should be 5hrs+ I will carry with me a recharge station so that I can recharge a spare battery while I work.
