Hi All, Got a bit of an odd one - a Calgarian's friend in Vancouver emailed me about this, as she's in a networking catch-22 and can't email out personally:
"I installed Linux Mint 9 on my cousins IBM Thinkpad R40 laptop and she is having difficulty connecting wired (Auto Eth0) does not show in the network manager "Wired Network" listings when she left clicks on the icon in the bottom panel. I am in Vancouver and gave her the laptop when she was here and she has since returned to Calgary. Everything was working fine in Vancouver, but now she is having problems connecting with her d-link router and Shaw cisco modem Can someone from CLUG contact her at 403-918-6430 and help her with this? Her name is Natalie and she is a total newbie with Linux, but is keen to learn and grow with it. Support people from d-link try to be helpful, but they are apparently out of their skillset with this issue. .... What she really needs is someone who could see what her home network set-up is and try to figure out why auto eth0 is not working. I have spent over 3hrs on the phone walking her through things and stuff is not working. Once she can connect to the internet I will definitely recommend to her to subscribe to the clug-talk mailing list. However, she cannot connect to the internet to subscribe, sort of a catch-22. I used a livecd (usb) LinuxMint 9 on my computer when I talked her through things earlier today and "it just worked" when I used it, however, she was having all sorts of problems (see below). I've asked her to go to a friends house and to try a wired connection there to check if it is the laptop or perhaps the router, cable modem or even the cables that are causing the problem. It would really mean a lot to have someone from CLUG even phone her to let her know that resources exist. Perhaps she could meet someone to show them what is going on and they could lend some help." -Dafydd _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
