I had the Wacom Graphire. it was just recognized like any mouse. I mostly used the mouse, but I used the pen from time to time. As for compatibility it was just plug it in and go.
I am sure you've seen this 'cause google brings it up first if you search for 'linux wacom'. It lists the Bamboo and Bamboo1 as being supported.
