With a USB WiFi adaptor it connects to my 802.11n network (I have fallback 802.11a and 802.11g APs which it also works with), it reads files off of my file server in the basement. It seems to handle everything I throw at it (.avi, h.264 .mkv etc.). There are also a couple of USB ports that I can plug in USB flash and hard drives into. It recognizes NTFS, FAT32, and ext3, and ext2 (perhaps more but those are only the ones I have tested).
The only complaint I have is that I can't access my Netflix account. Apparently the WD TVLive Plus has Netflix integrated, but no other services that I am aware of. You may want to look at the Boxee box. It looks similar but is a little more extensible. It is probably going to take a while for us to get all the content (Hulu is still not available).
