It goes beyond those things mentioned.  I know of a case where I suggested a 
project based around LAMP.  The other person involved in the project was a 
relative of the person with the money.  They did their best to sabotage the 
project.  I bowed out and guess what became of LAMP.  Can you say dot-naught.

Later I had a straight conversation with this other windows guy and his entire 
motivation was to make sure that he wasn't left out.

I have a project where I get recommendations because the system has been 
working without attention for 5 years.  It even has some windows parts.  In 
contrast the afore mentioned character seems to always be fiddling with the 
dot-naught stuff.
