Hi All,

I have started to move forward with some of my home projects & one of
them was to get over the frustration of having to copy files to a media
player to listen to somewhere else in the house.

To that end I have installed Subsonic on my server (Windows 2003) for
the time being. I have created a new user & have added the music
folder. Voila life is good & I can listen to music thru a web browser
on a different computer in the house.

But what I would like to do is listen through something like Clementine,
Amroak, VLC, etc. I just want to listen to randoms ongs with minimal
management of playlists, etc. Essentially I just want to click a song &
play it like I would if i was sitting at the location where the music is
located. As well, if I see song I like I would like to add it to my
media player.

I have tried adding a network share but the players insist on local
files, so that is why I started looking at Subsonic. I have tried
adding links to network shares on my Kubuntu 10.10 laptop to windows
share on the server but i can't play the files.

I am thinking that it is something to do with setting up a stream, but
up to this point I haven't been able to add one. I currently access
Subsonic at http://server:81. I was being prompted for vlc to open a
playlist everytime i clicked s ong & I eventually just let it do that &
was able to play a whole album.

I am hoping I don't need to add all of the songs to a play list in order
to stream them to the devices in the house. I just want to be able to
choose a media player, click on a song & away I go.

I know I haven't really provided much diagnostic information, as I am
not sure what would be pertinent. If anyone has questions, let me know,.
