I agree with Shawn here. You should try to do it the Debian way and save yourself some future grief.
Here is what I found that seemed to make sense in setting up the Libreoffice backport. http://debian.stevenrosenberg.net/index.php/2011/06/21/libreoffice-is-now-in-debian-squeeze-backports/ Have not tried it yet, but looks like it would work.
