I'm not sure how familiar everyone is with lawful access, but the Tories have been trying to pass legislation for a number of years now and it sounds like they'll sneak it into their omnibus crime bill in the fall. The basic idea behind the legislation is to force ISPs to install monitoring equipment on their networks and force them to hand private information over to government without court oversight. I've been talking with Steve Anderson at OpenMedia.ca in Vancouver and we're trying to get the word out, to see if something can be done to stop the legislation.
I wrote about it for the National Post: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/08/05/jesse-kline-in-the-new-canada-the-web-browses-you/and OpenMedia.ca has setup a site dedicated to the issue: http://stopspying.ca/ Jesse
