I'm not sure how familiar everyone is with lawful access, but the Tories
have been trying to pass legislation for a number of years now and it sounds
like they'll sneak it into their omnibus crime bill in the fall. The basic
idea behind the legislation is to force ISPs to install monitoring equipment
on their networks and force them to hand private information over to
government without court oversight. I've been talking with Steve Anderson at
OpenMedia.ca in Vancouver and we're trying to get the word out, to see if
something can be done to stop the legislation.
