Something like this probably will not work since it only does
unencrypted streams ("...OTA HDTV as well as "Clear" QAM digital
cable).  Unless the station you want is broadcast over the air (OTA)
then you are out of luck.  You might be able to get a cable card
device or computer to work, but I have never messed with that.

If you want to grab plain analogue channels (the ones you get from the
built in tuner as opposed to an external box) then most of the capture
devices should work.  In the past I have used a variety of Hauppauge
PCI cards to do this.  I have not bothered to do this for a few years
now so I have no idea what the state of this is in the Linux world
anymore.

You could take the coax output from the digital box into a TV tuner
device (like a Hauppauge or any other supported capture card) and then
display the output from the digital box on your PC.
