This is where I get into trouble. The installation fails because
"lpd startup" is attempted (from the file
/var/lib/dpkg/info/dcp7065dnlpr.postinst)
and fails killing the install.
To make matters worse I cannot the purge either because
lpd is accessed in the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/dcp7065dnlpr.postrm and
fails causing
the purge to fail also. Only by editing out the commands referencing
lpd in this file am I able to get a purge to work.
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU CAN DO THE lpr INSTALL
SINCE YOU SHOULD RUN INTO THE SAME ERROR BUT YOU DON'T.
DO YOU NOT HAVE THESE SAME FILES INSTALLED AND DO THEY NOT
REFERENCE THE lpd COMMAND?

See above.

I think this information is a big help but not until I get past the lpd problem.

My plan now is to install ubuntu 11.10 but I am having problems with it.
By you say, this may not help much.

I did.

I don't understand this but I assume it is unrelated to my problem.

Thanks again Shawn

I am going to install Ubuntu 11.10 and try again.
Perhaps I should try Kunbuntu 11.10 instead.
