My next option is to give up on Kubuntu and go to Debian. the Debian way? If you are going with Debian, I recommend Debian squeeze 6.0.4 to start with in some sort of install media: cd DVD, usb drive.
More and more things seem to be getting in the way of my computer stuff lately, but I have had a fair bit of practice lately trying to perfect it more. Sorry I lack the time to write up a complete procedure now. After the basic install, I like to modify the sources.list I have also found the preferred servers with apt-spy, but do not use defaults as root. There is a chance in breaking the install as it writes to /etc/apt/sources.list with no backup. In your home directory as ordinary user run something like: apt-spy -d squeeze -a North-America -o NAsqueeze.sources.list the -o option name should make sense to you so you can find it Other things to possibly add: updates and backports dkms stuff multimedia stuff firmware stuff needed keys of trust some pitfalls to avoid, like use US keyboard If I could make lots of time to do all of this, I would like to work on my own scripts Some will say it is done already with distro like ubuntu However I did not tend to like this sort path Mel > > I think a HUGE number of packages I expect to be installed are missing > anyways.
