What do you mean by "He says he noticed that any password will get him onto the Telus router and he is now afraid that this exposes his (Windows) computer to being hacked"?
Are we talking about a wifi password to join to the network or the password for the admin user on the router itself? I have a Telus router and it did not exhibit the behavior you describe for the admin interface, and I never did use it for wifi access.
