I analyzed it a little bit further... and the issue is as simple as silly: You, just like I did, run make on a non-X aware system, right? => > ./test-conformance -l -m thorough No DISPLAY found. Unable to run the conformance test suite without a display. In this case that's what's 'bugging us I would say. using configure --disable-conformance would disable the conformance test suite. Alternatively, you can of course fire up X and have the testsuite pass. It did work here in this way.
