I can't think of a workaround, I'm afraid. This behaviour was mostly
undefined (there're quite a bit of those) and it'll take time to
define reasonable ones for all the corner cases. Hopefully won't break
now that it's defined and I know someone is expecting it to work like
this. I also guess it'll be a great time to start documenting those
behaviours.
