I believe there is some recursion problem or some factor that scales down further at each iteration/call. At some point, I also got a crash on a page and a backtrace yielded more than 5000 functions so definitely some recursion problem.
Besides, the tiny font problem is not specific to fonts, but also affects surrounding elements like images et al.
