Nope, this is a bug.

(I do hope this can get into 2.8.11 final; would be a shame to have all
the shiny new interface stuff broken right out of the gate.)
Hopefully in the next few days I will have a real project actually using
this stuff (I have generated exports, which is where I spotted this, but
the next project down the line to actually consume the exported bits
isn't there yet), which will hopefully help iron out these sorts of bugs
:-).
