I still don't understand why this shouldn't be an additional ExtraGenerator. It will generate a special file intended to be used by KDevelop and maybe QtCreator additionally to makefiles/ninja files. Could be called "GenericJSON" or so. Other IDEs which don't support this file type but which need their own project file obviously still need their own specific generator.
