You might want to move this over to the paraview developers list. I know paraview was cross compiled onto a cray Xt3 machine, and there are ways to build it without any shared stuff. See http://vtk.org/Wiki/Cross_compiling_ParaView3_and_VTK
Yes indeed. mind you, it's because we're testing out CNL instead of Catamount that many of the cross compilation issues should go away - along with a number of other problems. I'll move over to the paraview list soon!
