othwise I can install cmake through shell and:
cmake --version returns 2.12.2
but cmake-gui reports 2.8.7
The curses (console) UI is ccmake not cmake-gui.
cmake-gui requires Qt and can be enabled with -DBUILD_QtDialog=ON
