The new set of QMs is posted on the AANAC homepage in the Need to Know column.  The document includes all of the information on the MDS items that contribute to the calculation as well as the risk adjustment information.

These measures are very different from the ones currently in use.  Only the ADL decline and physical restraint QMs are unchanged.  Improvement in walking was deleted, infection was changed to  UTI, and the following were added:

Decline in locomotion
Worsening of depressed or anxious mood
Low risk B or B incontinence (paired with catheter use)
Postacute pressure ulcers
Pneumonia vaccine
Flu vaccine

The use of covariates is significantly different for this set of QMs.  Risk adjustment scales are  used, such as the Personal Severity Index, the Cognitive Performance Scale, and scales based on RUG-III categories, among others.

The bottom line for the MDS team is this:  Vastly more of the MDS items are used in calculating these QMs.  MDS coding accuracy is even more critical than ever.

Is there a place where you can access the new QM's?  There is a rumor
that they will change in December but the official site makes no
reference to this and has not published any new technical documentation.
If anyone know's of this we would appreciate the information. Thank you,
Cathy Dale RN
