I disagree.

You don't necessarily code for the highest degree of independence.  The definition for extensive assistance reads "full staff performance of the function for part (but not all) of the last 7 days."  If there were 4 days of total dependence, then extensive assistance is what you would code for self performance.

RAI p. 3-76  G1 A:  Self care performance, what they actually did during the last 7 days, all shifts.  Their highest degree of independence.

RAI p. 3-91  G1 B:  Highest level of support provided even if only one time in last 7 days, all shifts.  Their highest degree of dependence.

Your example :  If G1 A  code as 2  and G2 B code as a 2 or 3 depending on number of people to help the patient.

I have a coding senerio I need help with. Here goes. If during a seven day observation period I have 4 episodes of a 4 (total dependence), 5 episodes of a 2 ( limited assist ) and 1 episode of a 3 ( extensive assist ). How would you code this and why?
