Bonnie, we do the same thing that you do. If the
resident comes in Managed care with Medicare backup,
we keep them on a PPS schedule because we have had an
instance where we have found out later that the payor
was Medicare - not Managed - and also vice versa. So
if we had not done the PPS schedule, we'd have to bill
the default rate. It's more work but once in a great
while, it pays off. If the res is Managed and not
eligible for Medicare yet, we'd just do an OBRA
schedule.-------Mike

assessments? We keep them on a Medicare schedule,
just for a safety net because we have gotten "stuck"
several times finding out too late that a Medicare
resident disenrolled from Medicare and joined the
Managed Care HMO. It wasn't really a concern until
just lately when the majority of our admissions are
Managed Care HMOs. It seems a waste of MDS time doing
them extra assessments but if they save us even once
from a default rate, I guess they are worth the time.
