We admit respite residents and they are treated like a regular admission. We
include them on the 802 while they are here and we do an admission care plan
for them on admit. We are in a case mix state so we do an admission MDS on
them even if they are here for less than 14 days (per our administrators
request to try to avoid defaults in the case mix rate). We have one
gentleman who comes every year for a week or two while his wife visits
family out of state. He is well known to the staff and we re-activate his
care plan and update it while he is here. We all look forward to Bud coming
for his "Club Med" visit every summer. We also have Hospice respite
admissions and we treat them the same.

Subject: Respite questions-Please help ASAP!!

Need some advice regarding Respite care:

1. Do you consider the resident as a true admission?

2. Do you complete MDS on them?

3. Do you include them on the 802?

4. What is your procedure/criteria for accepting Respite?

Thank you in advance.
