I'm not
brave enough to say there isn't a problem. A couple of things are
different on the server and it may be contributing to this problem.
First, I
upgraded the email server software to the most current version. I
waited for several months after the update came out to see if any other users
experienced problems. I hadn't heard any major issues so I
upgraded. I was getting about 3,000 emails a day before I upgraded and I'm
getting the same amount now. From my account, it seems to be
working ok. Then again, my desk is only 10 feet away from the
server.
Second, we have been getting a large number of
"undeliverable" error messages back from various email addresses. Over the
last month I've seen the cmdg message spool backed up to over 1,000 emails
attempting delivery. By default, the server made 20 attempts to deliver
email to a single address before giving up. A few weeks ago, I reduced the
number of attempts to 10. Many that use AOL,
HotMail, Yahoo and similar accounts for email may not realize that once
the mailbox gets full, the server stops accepting messages. When
this happens, an error message comes back to me. I get about
1,500 cmdg error messages daily and when I see an email address error
several times, I unsubscribe that address. I don't make any attempt
to notify the user as I assume the email address is not
functioning.
I just
reset the # of delivery attempts back to 20 so lets see if this problem goes
away. I also setup an external archive at the following web address: http://www.mail-archive.com/cmdg%40aanac.org/index.html.
If anyone suspects they are missing messages, please check this
archive.
If this
problem persists for anyone, please make sure you don't have any issues
with your email account such as full mail boxes or aggressive spam filters,
then contact me privately.
Thanks!
Gary
