We recently had the state come in on a complaint from a family in regards to our
podiatrist. There was no basis found for the complaint but the surveyor found a few
patients that refuse podiatry care as often as it needs to be done.I too graduated in
the 60s'when we were not to cut toenails.I still think this is appropriate in some
cases. Many elderly have thick nails,as nurses we don't have those tools to smooth
edges, etc. The nurses now must cut nails on those few patients.Podiatrist has just
inserviced staff.
