The
answer depend on the average length of stay.
With
an average length of stay of 14 days, you will average about 4.2
assessments/month. In other words, you will do about 2.1 assessments per
resident during their 14 day stay.
With
an average length of stay of 30 days, you will average about
3.2 assessments/month.
With
an average lenth of stay of 60 days, you will average about 2.2
assessments/month.
The
estimate is based on the idea that you will do a 5 and 14 day assessment for the
14 day resident plus a Discharge and the ocassional odd SCSA or Sig Corr. It is
the Discharge and the odd assessment that account for the 0.2 assessments that
are done for a resident every month

Subject: My facility is starting PPSMy facility hasn't utilized medicare since 1999. Currently we have a 300 bed facility however the administrator wants to open up a 30-50 bed medicare unit. We currently have 3 full time MDS coordinators. We do infection control, wound care, QA and our mds assessments for OBRA. I figured out our hours per assessment and other work assigned through FTE / assessment hours and it shows we should have 4.30 FTE's.So I need some kind of estimated amount of assessments that will be done on a 30-50 bed medicare unit to prove to the administrator/CEO how many more coordinators will be needed to run this new medicare unit. Please HELP!All responses will be appreciated!Jen in KC.
