I have noticed in the past day or so that several of us on the list serve have indicated that they do not have access to email at work. I just took for granted that most of us access the list while at work. Is there some reason or rationale that those of us who do not have access at work? Just curious. Reasons to not have Internet access or email at work:
1. Nonproductive time due to "surfing"
2. Too easy to get a virus from a download that could corrupt your MDS System
3. Not enough money in the budget to support a network for email
4. Server is not large enough to handle the number of people that would need email
5. Not enough money in the budget to pay for the email accounts
Reasons to have email at work:
1. Increased Internet security make it very difficult to download a virus currently.
2. Increased communication with almost instant communications with various types of servers.
3. Email is becoming the more accepted form of mass communication.
4. Internet access allows more readily available information.
5. Internet access can provide on the spot resources.
6. Internet email groups to get needed information rapidly for those that are search challenged.
7. Many servers are free for email access.
8. We do not have to keep paying the price for the ones that surfed and abused the Internet access
9. With an effective network group, surfing would be blocked, and the accounts would be for email only.
10. Information, Information, Information. If I sit and think of this for a few minutes I am sure that I can come up with more reasons.
Presently, my company does not have the MDS coordinators on the company email. I went to my boss and she said it was okay with her to load my own email on my computer as long as it was okay with corporate IT Support. I called and they said it was okay as long as I was paying for it. I loaded it. To be honest, most days I do not have the time in the day to look at email.
