Quadriplegia is a paralysis of all 4 limbs and is different from quadripareis, which is a weakness in the four extremities. I would code under I3 as it is not the same as quadriplegia.
I believe the codes were deleted because some of them were no longer up to date. eg: CVA was a 436, which is the code for the acute CVA, and used in the acute care setting or hospital. We are now coding the after affects of the CVA under the 438.-- code.

Per our August 2003 Changes to the Dec 2002 RAI manual it indicates that pages 3-133 and 3-134 Tables have been deleted. Did this happen because of changes to the ICD codes or ? Do we code quadriparesis under I1. z or under I3 with it's own specific code? Thanks for your help. Marian |
