Hi,

I have a question about Medicare coverage. Some time ago, Medicare sent out
a letter to facilities that clarified coverage for intermittent caths. It
was a covered skilled service if provided daily and there was adequate
documentation in the chart re: need, etc.. We covered a resident for qid
intermittent caths, as well as other needs. He used his 100 days. He was
transferred out of the Medicare section and got better but still required
intermittent caths qid. Now he is in the hospital and has had his 3 day
qualifying stay. My question is, since he still required intermittent cath
and remained in a skilled facilitu, is he entitled to another benefit
period? He just had a quarterly MDS completed before his hosp admission and
we put it thru the grouper and it indicated a PD2 RUGs level.

Thanks,
Laurie
