You can also address this in a recreation therapy problem if they don't need a mood or adjustment problem. It can be something along the lines that the resident chooses which activities to attend. It can also be somewhere that they want to attend a special family or community event, i.e. be strong enough to attend a family wedding or anniversary party. We have some folks who have a goal that they want to attend the county fair every summer. Our recreation department always takes a large group to the fair every year and we arrange for one volunteer to accompany each resident so they can see what they want to see. It can also go in a discharge potential problem that their goal is to return to their prior setting or transition to a lesser level of care if possible. It can also be included in an ADL problem, such as that they want to do their own hair every morning or visit the beauty shop every week for a shampoo and set. Look at the big picture and try to figure out what the resident's goals are and address them in the care plan wherever they fit.

We should care plan to the resident's strengths. See page 4-30 of the RAI manual "Addressing resident strengths in the care planning process." F-279. It is important for the IDT to look at resident strengths and use them to prevent declines and to improve resident quality of life and self-esteem. -----Original Message----- From: Gail RN <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Dec 31, 2003 1:51 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Establishes Own Goals Just curious......when this triggers, how does everyone care plan to this? Our social services who code this area don't want to care plan to it under psychosocial. Any ideas? _________________________________________________________________ Have fun customizing MSN Messenger - learn how here! http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/tracking/reach_customize /---------------------------------------------------------- The Case Mix Discussion Group is a free service of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators "Committed to the Assessment Professional" Be sure to visit the AANAC website.
