--- Begin Message ---Medicare's free resource, Nursing Home Compare (www.medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE or 1-800-633-4227), now has a different look and feel. Providing caregivers, families and healthcare professionals with an enhanced set of clinical data about nursing home performance, Nursing Home Compare makes it easier than ever to compare the quality of care provided in California's 1,351 Medicare-certified nursing homes.Nursing Home Compare and the quality measures are part of the Nursing Home Quality Initiative, launched in November 2002 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. While several of the 11 initial quality measures remain unchanged, others have been revised and several new clinical topics have been added. Nursing Home Compare now includes performance data for 11 quality measures related to chronic care and three measures related to post-acute care, covering areas such as pain, pressure sores, delirium, infections, depression/anxiety, and bladder control. Want to learn more about the 14 quality measures now reported? Visit Nursing Home Compare at www.medicare.gov and click on the Nursing Home Compare link at the lower right hand corner. This update is brought to you by Lumetra (formerly CMRI), California's Quality Improvement Organization for Medicare.
