Title: Still Confused about ARD
Right.  If you realize that the resident should have been on Medicare from admission but didn't know it until day 9, you cannot go back and set an assessment date in the 1-8 day window since the window has closed.  You would have to set the  assessment reference date on day 9 (or later) and complete the assessment.  If, however, you would have identified the problem on day 8 you could have set the ARD any day from day 1-8 ( including grace days).

Subject: Still Confused about ARD

Can you retroactively set ARD after the grace days have passed?  When I read pg 2-40 or RAI Manual it says "A late or missed assessment may be completed as long as the window for the allowable ARD (including grace days) has not passed."  To me this means that once you are beyond the grace days, you can't go back and set the ARD.  Am I misinterpreting???
