Katie, First, if a resident is not Medicare A, then you follow the OBRA schedule. The first assessment due would be the admission assessment within 14 days of admission (admission day counts as day 1). So , if your resident leaves before day 14 as in your example, you would not need to complete an assessment. You would need to complete a Discharge Tracking form when they leave the facility. If no admission assessment has been done, the appropriate coding for the discharge tracking form would be AA8a=8 Discharge prior to completion of Initial Assessment. So, if your resident's stay is covered by private insurance , the requirements would be to use the OBRA schedule. IF there is a chance that Medicare A would be the payor, I would follow the Medicare MDS schedule. Respite residents are usually not Medicare A, so would also follow the OBRA schedule. If their stay is less than 14 days, the only thing required would be the discharge tracking form. ----- Original Message ----- From: "katie fox" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2004 8:05 AM Subject: private insurance
