Resisting care is another one of my buttons.  My response to all MDS coding of resident's resisting care is
WHY.

There is nothing more embarrassing than a resident refusing to take a shower during survey and telling the surveyor it is because the room, hall or water is too cold.  Over the past 24 years I have heard this one a number of times.

Please assess WHY and try to resolve the underlying issue.  Also remember the MDS section on resident's customary routine?  Break that routine and YEP, they will resist care, so will you, so will I

Is there a new rule somewhere that anyone who is alert &oriented can't be considered to be resisting care?

It's not a new rule. It's been in the Manual.
