Greetings:

Questions about PAs signing DNR orders and PT and OT orders from a PA friend, he is in FL. on another listserver. I hope this helps. This is his answer:

"I have signed a million DNRs at various facilities over the years.  Remember that DNRs and advanced directives are often obtained by nursing or social workers so writing the order for one is not very important etc.

If there is a lack of any advance directives or signed DNR from the patient or family then the physician or PA can write the order.  The PA usually writes the order if the MD directs him to or if he has privileges to do so in the institution he is working in.

Yes Pas and NPs can write any PT or OT orders in a NH.  Do it every day."

Best Wishes,
