Depression is the most common psychiatric diagnosis of older adults.

Depression can be masked by a presentation of physical symptoms and complaints.

Pain and depression re closely related.

Research shows pain can be relieved in 90% of all cases.

Although depression is prevalent in the geriatric population, it is also very treatable.

Once diagnosed, 80 percent of clinically depressed individuals, including older persons, can be effectively treated.
This teleconference will discuss depression in your resident, and how to intervene. The topic will be discussed by:

Call instructions:
- Dial in 10 minutes before the call.
- When the call is answered, enter your passcode.
- When prompted for your name, give your facility name and name, then press the # key.
- Speak slowly and distinctly. If you are using a speakerphone, you will need to speak up so that we will be able to hear it when we listen to the roll call.
- *6 - Mute/unmute your line. Keep your line muted at all times except when speaking. With a large number of callers, this is necessary to minimize background noises.
- Do not put your phone on hold if your line has a recorded message that plays while the line is on hold.
- Identify yourself when you speak.
