I have a resident who was admitted Medicare A following hospital for aspiration pneumonia (he had been living at home prior).  He has had a peg tube since 2000.  He went home after it was inserted, he did not use any medicare days for this (so I'm told).  His wife has been caring for him at home.  She changes the peg tube herself.   Now he is here.   All therapies will be d/c'd by this Friday.  My question ( and his wife's!)  can we skill him the whole 100 days for the peg tube now?   He is NPO, getting everything through the tube.   Speech was dc'd because he is an aspiration risk and will no longer be getting anything by mouth.   Can we use the 100 days??
Thanks, Nancy
