Title: Skilling Oxygen
It is my understyanding that you can only skill until the need for DAILY skilled nursing is over.  Of course, it needed, it can be restarted for up to 30 days.  Therefore, if I'm covering him, and I find that he hasn't needed an oxygen level adjustment in over a week, he's probably not skilled anymore.  What about nebulizer use?  Most of the patients I have up in Michigan aren't cognitively intact enough to be able to get maximum use out of an inhaler, and we end up recommending nebulizers to keep them breathing.  As a result, they end up skilling in the Rehab Medium group, based on the Respiratory Therapy minutes given by the trained nurse.

Subject: Skilling Oxygen

Good morning, I am looking for any information you can help me with.  What are your FI's saying about skilling residents for Medicare on oxygen.  Are they allowing coverage for all days, only until stable or not at all for chronic users.  Any help would be appreciated.
