We have 2 types of lifts, one that totally lifts the resident and the other that requires the resident to bear wt and hold on.  The toal lift I code 4/2 or 3 depending on the number of CNAs and the stand-up I code as a 3/2 or 3 since the resident does bear weight and participates.  We as a facility have never counted the lift as a person.

I code transfers with a mechanical lift 4/3 (as long as a mechanical lift was used every time during the 7 days).  We require 2 assist for all mechanical lifts.

Subject: Coding Section G - Transfer with Mechanical Lift

I have been asked to pass this question to the group on coding when a mechanical lift is used for transfers.

Prior to the mechanical lift being used the resident was coded:
Bed Mobility coded 4/3
Transfers coded 4/3

With the Mechanical Lift -Transfers...the resident is placed onto the lift by the 2 staff...
The two staff remain in the room...one mans the lift and one stands by in case assistance is needed.

How would you code transfers with the Mechanical Lift?
