I have noticed that many AANAC members express concerns about the nursing
shortage. My concern is that it has interfered with the ability to complete
the necessary supporting documentation to complete the RAI process. I enjoy
the challenge of what it takes to do the MDS correctly. However, I find it
almost unrealistic to work in an environment that demands more paper work
then what we have for nursing staff.. When the staffing acuity is based on
RUGS, and the RUGS scores are low, it just might be due to the fact that
there may not be enough staff to do the tasks that will increase the RUGS.
How are ANNAC members dealing with this concern? How can we members assist
with resolving the nursing shortage? I feel more challenged at trying to
beat this problem right now because unless we get to the root of the
problem, we are not going to be able to do the RAI as well as we would like
to.
