Thank you for putting that decision tree out.

The 60 days of wellness is from the last day of Medicare coverage.  The benefit period ends with the close of a period of 60 consecutive days during which the patient was neither an inpatient of a hospital nor an inpatient of an SNF receiving skilled services.  To determine the 60-consecutive-day period, begin counting with the day on which the individual was discharged.  I'm attaching the Spell of Illness (Benefit Period) Decision Tree.  It's a very helpful aide to keep handy.

Is this the way everyone understands this?  The 60 days wellness period does not have to be the 60 days prior to the 3 day qualifying stay?

She would qualify for MCR if she had a 60 day break prior to the IV's.  The 60 day break does not have to be immediately before the hospital stay.  It sounds like she had a 60 day break so just because she had IV's before going to the hospital does not mean she couldn't have a new benefit period.

I agree with you that she does not meet the criteria for Medicare because of the IV prior to hospital admission
