Just because you score high in this area does not mean you automatically have a 
problem in your facility. The high score should trigger an investigation/audit of pain 
management - look at the patients that are included in your sample -are they being 
assessed and managed properly? Is the MDS accurately capturing the correct code? Do 
you have a higher percentage of residents admitted with pain management issues - this 
will increase your percentage as well. You may or may not have a problem - you need to 
start by collecting some data. Good luck.
