A discharge tracking form is not required when the resident leaves the facility on a temporary visit home, or on another type of therapeutic or social leave.  page 2-23
Although your scenario does not fit this exactly, I think that the intent is that a discharge tracking form would NOT be completed in this instance.  Even if the resident had been in an emergency room, a discharge tracking form would not have been required since less than 24 hours.

I have a question due you have to do a discharge for a pt that was out on pass to see a Dr. Out of town and did not return to the facility till 1250 am. Is there a 48 hr rule when they have an order?
