Sometimes saying how many residents you have does not tell the whole story. If you work in a facility that does little medicare, then large numbers are manageable. If your facility does a large number of medicare residents, then sometimes it is all one person can do to keep up with those assessments. Instead of looking at number of residents, I would look at number of assessments done on a weekly/monthly basis at the facility. That should tell you if you are looking at a manageable situation.

Wow!! At my facility we have 50 each and only I do submissions, etc. as the MDS Coordinator and we're busy. >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 03/11/04 07:30AM >>> June, This is possible. We have a total census here of 161 I am responsible for greater than half of those residents along with transmission, daily meetings, careplans updating those etc... Some weeks are worse than others but if you have a good tracking system you should have no problem. The one thing I can recommend you tell the powers that be that if you are responsible for that amount of caseload you need to be the very last resort to be pulled to the floor etc. I have been doing this at our facility for 4 years and it works well. Good luck! Pam -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of June Brunelle Sent: Wednesday, March 10, 2004 6:00 PM To: aanac Subject: number of mds's... Greetings, Our facility is looking at making some changes. Would like to know from the group what is considered a reasonable number of MDS's that one could do in a weeks time. We are a dually certified facility. Is it realistic to be resposible for 82 residents to which I would be responsible for coding a good portion of the mds and overseeing that other departments do their part in a timely manner? I would also be doing the submissions for the entire facility plus the careplans and going to the careplan meetings. We have a total cencus of 156 with another person who will do the other approx. half.. It seems that on some weeks this could be a heavy load for anyone person to handle...especially when one could have several full or comprehensive assessments. What are some pros and cons that I can bring back to our follow up meeting this friday. Thanks in advance. All thoughts appreciated.
