DAVE is the Data Assessment Verification project of CMS. Off site
has started, which includes a paper request, similar to the Additional
Documentation Request from your intermediary. The focus is suppose to be on
Medicare assessments (reportedly April to June 2003), about 2000 facilities will
get requests (heads up, they also want the Care plan, Dietary, Activities and
S.S. notes). I assisted someone who was lucky enough to get one, a request
for Care Plan and multi discipline notes was the major difference. For on-site
review, which may include a focus on OBRA MDSs as well, will be coming
soon. If the inaccuracies affect the RUGs level, they will refer the claims to
the intermediary. There is suppose to be an educational component to the
facilities at exit and in writing.
