I showed this to my MDS consultant and she stated that it had to be a piggyback such as NS infusing along with the IV antibiotics that it cannot be just a bag of antibiotics alone?  SHe stated that when it is the 2 bags hanging then you count the NS that infuses while the antibiotic is infusing.  Unless I am absolutely crazy when you hang a piggyback you hang the IV antibiotic higher than the primary and both are not infusing at the same time?  SHe keeps insisting that it has to be a primary and secondary bag and absolutely cannot count the fluid in the IV antibiotic bag.

Yes, page 3-156 of the RAI manual describes the average fluid intake.  IT states "while the amount of fluid in an IV piggyback solution is included in the calculation."

Subject: Iv antibiotics

I know I asked this question a couple of months ago and I do remember the answer, but I need the answer in writting and cannot find it.  When someone is receiving IV antibiotics do you count the fluid in the bag in section K?
