* IMPORTANT INFORMATION * This is the first virus in two years to get through our virus scanner. Our servers are setup to scan every email and the virus definitions are updated every 4 hours. This got through because the virus is contained inside a password protected zip file which blocks access by the virus scanner. In order to be infected you must extract the zip file and manually enter the password. Unfortunately, it's easy to be tricked into doing this.
To follow up, I saved the suspect zip file on an isolated computer and attempted to extract the zip file. The virus protection halted the operation with a warning that the zip file contained the W32/[EMAIL PROTECTED] virus. What this means for those of you who extracted the zip file that appeared to come from Rena is that you are probably now infected with the W32/[EMAIL PROTECTED] virus. If your virus scanning software was up to date, it should have blocked the file and given you a warning message. If that's the case, you should be okay. For those of you who are now infected, you can get more information about the virus at the following link: http://hq.mcafeeasap.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=101095 This page includes a downloadable program to detect and remove the virus. If you don't have antivirus software, you can also go to http://housecall.antivirus.com and run the free virus checker. I traced the email back to an IP address originating in Atlanta. Unless Rena is connected to a network in Atlanta today, it's highly unlikely this message actually came from her.
