The appropriate assessment to do after a Med A resident returns to the facility is a
Medicare return/readmission assessment AA8b=05. You would probably want to combine it
with the admission assessment and make it be a AA8a=1 AA8b-05, but you could do it
simply as a return/readmission without the admission assessment if it works better for
you. You software should allow this, if not, they need to correct the problem. Make
sure that you are entering the readmission date in A4a, that might be what the problem
with computing the RUGS days is from.

Subject: Medicare returns/05 mds

I think we are having trouble with our software,2nd time in few weeks.Scenario-patient
comes in med a,do a 5day [01]not a comprehensive,patient goes to hospital,we send d/c
prior to initial, bed is held, can't we do an 05 on their return, even though we haven't
done a comprehensive? Our state computer person tells us we can,but our software
doesn't Rug the right days.
