The issue is with the alcohol based product being near open flames. According to our fire marshal, there has been no federal or Maryland State guideline prohibiting the use of the product.  I have seen some comments on this site that placing dispensers in the hallways in some states is prohibited. I would contact your fire marshall for guidance. Before we installed our dispensers, I contacted the fire marshall and our Office of HealthCare Quality to be sure.
